Concept introduction
As we are all now well aware, we are surrounded by germs. Viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, are all around us and invisible to the naked eye. How do we remain healthy with all of these germs around us? The answer- our immune system. Our immune system is our body's security system that protects us from these potential invaders. It is amazingly complex and can remember thousands and thousands of previous invaders making repeat infections quite rare. But why do some people who are seemingly healthy get sick? You will learn the answer in this section. Luckily, there are many things that you can do to improve your immune system's function. Some of them are very basic and some of them are things your own doctor may not even know about !!
If you've ever heard one of my lectures, you know that about 70-80% of immune function is housed in the gut. We will touch on it in this section, however, its so important that we will have a whole section dedicated just to the gut.
